Forbidden Lives: LGBT History Month 2018

Dates of upcoming public events:

February 5:  I will be giving a talk on Swansea LGBT people to a local youth group. As this is a closed group, if you would like to attend please contact me directly and I’ll put you in touch with the organiser.

February 6:  Shrewsbury Library 7.30pm £3 on the door. I will be talking about Forbidden Lives followed An Extraordinary Female Affection a short play by Jane Hoy and Helen Sandler on the Ladies of Llangollen, followed by a Q&As.

February 9: During February there will be a month-long exhibition at Swansea National Waterfront Museum on the Ladies of Llangollen – the first on arguably the most famous ‘lesbian’ couple in history. February 9 at 6.30 I will be acting as host introducing An Extraordinary Female Affection by Jane Hoy and Helen Sandler followed by a talk on Swansea business woman and writer Amy Dillwyn by Dr. Kirsti Bohata.

February 10: Pride Cymru OUTing the Past at the Senedd, Cardiff Bay featuring a day-long event of talks, shows and exhibitions. Using the story of Katherine Philips I will be discussing what responsibilities we have when it comes to retro-sexualising people from the past.

February 18: Read Your Writing at Book-ish, Crickhowell. Come along and read your work. Entry £4 for refreshments

February 19: Celebrating LGBT Cardiff, Glamorgan Archives 15:30-17:00.  The exhibition Celebrating LGBT Cardiff will be on display 19-24 February.

February 20: Queering Glamorgan 3:30 at Glamorgan Archives. Norena Shopland and Dr. Daryl Leeworthy discuss history and heritage in South Wales.

February 23: Aberration Presents Forbidden Lives for LGBT History Month in Aberystwyth Arts Centre Studio. Named after Norena’s book because she will be part of the lineup! Also appearing with talks, readings, film and performances are: Tom Marshman, Mike Parker, Glitter Cymru, Jane Hoy & Helen Sandler. Click here for more details.

February 27: 12pm Merthyr College with Visible smt. Talking about people from Merthyr’s LGBT history, such as Cedric Morris

March 7: Dimensions of Gender in Wales and Beyond  – more details to follow

April 19 – Abergavenny Writing Festival  – more details to follow
